The government today said it's committed to the national biogas and fertiliser mission and will provide all the support to facilitate the same.
Inaugurating the National Biogas Convention here today, Power, Coal, and New and Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal said decentralisation of power is the fastest way to provide energy access to people.
In order to take energy to the last mile, "we have to ensure decentralised power production across the country", the ministry said in a release.
"India is already the world leader in small-scale and low-cost biogas purification technology," the release quoted the minister as saying.
The minister wanted the participants to create a framework for facilitating scientific exploration in the country.
Goyal also stressed on setting up a panel of scientists and bureaucrats who would plan integrated research for various universities, research institutes and the ministry.
Terming biogas as "an important solution" to the present energy crisis in rural areas, the minister said the green technology can create job opportunities and can add to income of villagers.
He felt that this can strengthen India's commitment to global climatic issues like reducing carbon emissions, climate change and the like.
"Through these biogas plants, we can demonstrate that India's efforts to leave behind a greener planet are the results of our age-old heritage of discouraging wasteful consumption," the statement added.
The three-day convention is being organised by Biogas Development and Training Centre at IIT Delhi and supported by various ministries. The Convention is being attended by researchers and other stakeholders.
