The status will ensure smooth sale of the commodity even during any uncalled or sudden strikes or lock outs.
"The government has decided to extend the status of alumina and aluminium and mining of bauxite, as public utility services for another six months so that its sales is not affected due any uncalled or sudden strikes or lock outs," an official said.
Section 22 of the Industrial Disputes Act 1947 prohibits strikes and lock outs in public utility services unless they give sufficient notice as provided in the legislation.
Earlier, these services were declared as 'Public Utility Service' for a period of six months with effect from May 16, 2017.
