The BJP-led government today faced an embarrassment in the Maharashtra Assembly when senior party member Eknath Khadse accused it of "hiding" the information sought by him related to a 1995 resolution related to MIDC under Industries Department.
"I have been demanding some information from the past two Assembly sessions. However, I haven't received any reply yet. I had asked about a government resolution (GR) of 1995 related to the MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation)....Whether the GR still exists or not...Please tell me what exactly is preventing you from giving the information to me?...Is there any secret in that information?" the former revenue minister questioned.
Backing Khadse, senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar said it was surprising that a ruling party member was denied the information he had been seeking.
"When we (Opposition) seek any information we are denied it. Now that a ruling party member is seeking information from the past one year, he is not given it. We will bring a breach of privilege motion next time for not giving information," Pawar said.
State Industries department is headed by Subhash Desai of the Shiv Sena.
However, there was no response from Treasury benches when Khadse raised the matter.
Khadse had to resign as revenue minister last year following allegations of the conflict of interest in the purchase of a MIDC plot near Pune in name of his kin. The MIDC had claimed the said land was owned by it and thus could not be sold.
The state government had appointed a single-member inquiry committee to examine the allegations against Khadse, which submitted the probe report to the government recently.
