Govt plans to set up 22 ITIs in NE Region

The government is planning to set up 22 new industrial training institutes (ITIs) in the North Eastern region.
"Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has formulated a scheme titled 'Enhancing skill development infrastructure in NE states and Sikkim' to set up 22 new ITIs in the North Eastern region," Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy said in a wriiten reply to the Lok Sabha.
Out of the 22 new ITIs, five have been allocated to the state of Assam, he added.
Arunachal Pradesh will have 4 ITIs, Tripura and Mizoram will have 3, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya will have 2 each and Sikkim will have one ITI Rudy said.
Cost of one ITI is Rs 950 lakh. Out of this Rs 855 lakh will be the share of Centre whiles the states will provide Rs 95 lakh, he added.
"Another scheme titled 'Setting up of 1,500 multi skill training institutes (MSTIs) in unserved blocks/areas with active participation of industry/private sector partners is under formulation," Rudy said.
Meeting of the expenditure finance committee for considering the above proposal for the scheme was held om April 19, 2016, he added.
"Cabinet note is under preparation. Once the scheme is approved, it will be implemented expeditiously," Rudy said.
