Govt reinstates permits of 400 private bus operators

Delhi government has reinstated the permits of about 400 private bus operators out of 2579, whose permits were cancelled due to their addresses being found to be incorret by Delhi Police.
The state transport department earlier this month decided to give last chance to operators of contract and mini buses, whose permits had been cancelled after their addresses were not found to be incorrect in a varification drive.
"Out of 2579 private bus operators, we have reinstated the permits of about 400 as of now," said a senior official of transport department.
The official also said they had asked all such operators to get their new addresses endorsed in the registeration certificate (RC) so that their cancelled permits could be reinstated.

According to the department, the last date for getting the new verified address endorsed in the RC is October 10.
There are close to 8,000 such buses plying in the national Capital.

Till August this year, transport department had canelled permits of 2579 of those buses and mini buses because of incorrect address.
The address verification drive had been initiated after the December 16 gangrape incident when it was found that the owner of this vehicle had submitted false address proof.
Thereafter, the Ministry of Home Affairs had asked for verification of all permit holders be carried out.
