Govt signs agreement with global body for children healthcare

Government today signed a contribution agreement with Global Alliance for Vaccination and Immunisation (Gavi) for vaccination and immunisation, particularly for children healthcare.
"A contribution agreement was signed here between the government GAVI. The agreement was signed by Arvind Mayaram, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance and Seth Berkley, CEO, GAVI," an official statement said.
The signing of agreement would facilitate contribution of government to GAVI.
As per the terms of agreement, government has decided to contribute to GAVI USD 1 million per year for four years from 2013-14 to 2016-17.
"India has a tradition of reaching-out to needy and lending support to various activities carried out by different agencies/government.
...It is expected that this effort of the government will place it as an important leading player, towards global commitment for vaccination and immunisation in particular, and health of children in general," Mayaram said.
