GRP officer suspended for misconduct

A GRP officer was suspended for alleged misconduct and travelling in a superfast Express train without ticket, officials said.

The inspector-in-charge of the Government railway police station at Berhampur Rajendra Kumar Munda was placed under suspension with immediate effect by the Director General of Police yesterday, they said.

Munda was travelling without ticket in Purulia-Vellupurma superfast Express train on Monday and assaulting a railway personnel after being caught, they said.

When chief ticket inspector, D Kiran Sagar found that Munda was travelling without ticket he asked the GRP official to vacate, they said adding the railway personnel was allegedly assaulted thereafter.

The ticket inspector sustained injuries in the assault and was undergoing treatment at railway hospital at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, they said.

Railway sources said the IIC without uniform was travelling in B-1 coach without ticket in the train. He identified himself as a GRP officer and refused to pay any dues when the TTE asked him to show his ticket. He also refused to vacate and abused the TTE.

At Berhampur railway station, at least four GRP personnel, some in uniform, entered the B1-coach and dragged the TTE over platform. Sagar sustained injuries as he was fell down on the platform, they said adding that investigation into the conduct of other GRP personnel were being made.

After getting first aid at Berhampur, Sagar was admitted to the railway hospital at Visakhapatnam. He got his right shoulder dislocated. He lodged FIR against the errant GRP officer and other GRP personnel who were instigated to attack him, they said.

Munda was, however, not immeditely available for comment.
