Gujarat Finance Minister Saurabh Patel today said the Centre should compensate the states for the resultant revenue loss if it ushers in the General Sales Tax regime.
Patel said he spoke with Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley at a pre-budget meeting in the national capital earlier today.
Speaking to PTI on phone, Patel said he took up with Jaitley the issue of reduction of customs duty on imports for the ship-breaking industry, and introduction of an anti-dumping duty in the ceramics industry facing competition from Chinese imports.
Patel also demanded exemption from taxes for the Urban Development Authorities.
