Guj: 8 dead in fire in Vadodara district

In a tragic incident ahead of Diwali, eight persons were today killed after a fire broke out at a cracker shop in Rustampura village of Vaghodia tehsil of Vadodara district, police said.
As the fire started at the shop outside a two-story building this evening and spread to its ground floor which had a cutlery shop, people ran up to the building's first floor to take shelter.
However, a gas cylinder exploded due to the fire, causing a wall of a room on the first floor to collapse, said Bhargav Vyas, deputy chief fire officer, Vadodara Municipal Corporation.
The victims were trapped under the debris, he said.

Relief was being provided to those injured, he said.
