Committed to 33% reservation for women in police force: Gujarat CM

Patel believes that reservation is important to empower women and up-lift them in society

Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel on today said that her government was committed towards 33 per cent reservation for women in police force. She said this after the passing out parade of 97 armed police sub inspectors (PSIs) and 39 intelligence officers (IOs), at Gujarat Police Academy in Karai in Gandhinagar.

These officers will now be inducted in police force after completing their 9-month training at the Karai based Academy. Among these 136 officers, 25 were women, including 10 PSIs and 15 IOs.

Patel appreciated the fact that more women and educated youth were deciding to join the police force. Reiterating her government’s commitment to women’s reservation, Patel said, “To extend the efforts of women’s empowerment Gujarat government is committed towards 33 per cent reservation for women in police recruitments.”

The first woman chief minister of Gujarat claimed that the crime rate in the state was lowest in the country which is evident from the peace and communal harmony that has prevailed over last decade and helped in ushering development.

She also applauded the state police force for being the most educated force in India having more educated policemen serving people. The CM also talked about modernisation of police force and use of latest technology for better efficiency.
