Guj: FDCA asked to inspect units making puris

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel has asked the authorities to conduct inspection of units where the puris used in pani-puri are made.

Patel, who is also health minister, told PTI over phone that he ordered the Food and Drugs Control Administration to send teams across the state after receiving complaints that many of these units operate in filthy conditions.

"We received complaints about unhygienic conditions at puri-making units in Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot and other places," he said.

He asked the FDCA teams to take strict action against the units found to be violating the standards of hygiene required under the law, he said.

Vadodara Municipal Commissioner Ajay Bhadoo said the corporation carried out raids at several puri-making units in the city in the past two days, and closed down about 50 units owing to unhygienic conditions or use of substandard ingredients.
