According to Gujarat Fisheries Commissioner, P L Darbar, a communication in this regard has been received from the Centre and the office of the Indian High Commissioner based in Pakistan.
Two officials of Gujarat Fisheries department from Veraval will go to Mumbai to receive the body of fisherman Bala Naran Singad and after completing the required formalities, will take it to his native by road for which the state government has made all the arrangements, he told PTI.
Sudeep Kumar Nanda, Additional Chief Secretary to the Home department of Gujarat said the state government did not want matters to be delayed further and hence took immediate steps to complete the procedures to bring back Singad.
However, the Pakistani government has not mentioned anything over the release of his two brothers, also lodged in the same jail in Karachi, he said.
"It was a good opportunity for the Pakistani government to show its goodwill as it could have created a good impact and would have been a step towards normalising the relationship between two countries," he said.
Meanwhile, talking to PTI, Samjuben, wife of Singad said, "I learnt about the death of my husband from a letter written by his younger brother Bharat (lodged in Karachi jail) which was delivered to me August 28."
Samjuben, who is illiterate approached her village sarpanch Bhanabhai Solanki, who informed her about the demise.
It's over 50 days that the body of the fisherman is kept at Edhi Center in Karachi.
