The ruling BJP in Gujarat on Friday suspended a local corporator after a video purportedly showing him accepting bribe from a builder went viral on social media.
Pulkit Vyas, elected from Isanpur ward, can be seen demanding and accepting Rs 10,000 from a person who identifies himself as a builder in the video.
After the video went viral, city BJP chief Jagdish Panchal suspended Vyas from the party, the party said in a release.
In the video, Vyas is heard telling the builder not to worry as he "will take care of officials" of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) which is controlled by the BJP.
Vyas purportedly also promised to use his influence and make the AMC issue a notification to stop all kinds of demolitions for three months if the builder paid Rs 5,000 more.
