A total of 2,211 cases of murder and 12,758 cases of suicide have been registered across Gujarat in the last two years, the Legislative Assembly was told today.
As per the data for calender years 2016 and 2017 tabled by Home department during Question Hour, on an average three persons were murdered every day while 17 persons committed suicide daily in this period.
Responding to queries about serious crimes in the state, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who handles Home portfolio, informed that a total of 2,215 cases of attempt to murder were registered during the last two years.
Among all the districts, Surat tops the chart with 267 murders, followed by Ahmedabad (241), Rajkot (162), and Kutch (109).
With registration of 295 cases of attempt to murder, Ahmedabad district tops the list in this category, followed by Jamnagar (241), Surat (218), Rajkot (128) and Mehsana (121).
Surat district also recorded the highest number of suicides at 1,997 in the last two years, followed by Ahmedabad (1,791) and Rajkot (1,601).
