Gujarat Home Minister assures action on police recruitment

Gujarat Minister of State for Home Rajni Patel assured here today that his department would take stern action against senior police officers who were allegedly involved in the police sub-inspector recruitment scam.
Patel's assurance came after Rajkot District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gagandeep Gambhir submitted her investigation report to the Gujarat Home Department for further action.
"Based on closed circuit television (CCTV) footage of the physical test, the DSP prepared the report about the police sub-inspector recruitment scam and sent it to us. The report has included names of some senior officers who favoured candidates during the test," Patel said.

"I am yet to study the report. Names of senior officials have been included in the report, but I wish to assure you that we will take stern action against whoever is found guilty," Patel said.
The police recruitment exam was held in Rajkot on February 16, where candidates aspiring to become police sub-inspectors were required to run 1,600 metres within a stipulated time.
However, two woman constables, who applied for the exam, allegedly entered the race mid-way and finished their test on time, it has been alleged.
It is alleged that though the act was caught on CCTV, three police officials who were deployed to supervise the test, ignored their misdeed and cleared the two women constables for the written test, which is yet to take place.

Sources said that the report by the DSP has pointed fingers at the three police officials for allegedly favouring two woman constables who took physical tests for the post to recruit police sub-inspectors, which was held at Rajkot on February 16.
