To commemorate World Music Day, the globally acclaimed music brand, Hard Rock Cafe put together an extensive lineup of 40 artists to simultaneously perform in various cities across the country.
The lineup featured bands such as Parikrama, Indian Ocean, Euphoria Bollywood's Amit Trivedi and Benny Dayal together with others like Lost Stories, Anish Sood, Zaeden, and DJ Chetas.
Various outlets of the Hard Rock Cafe across Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Bengaluru witnessed music performances from 15 varied genres last evening.
World Music Day, celebrated annually on June 21, commemorates an idea that originated in France in 1982 to celebrate accessibility to great music and the special bond that it creates between people across geographical barriers.
The highlight of last evening in Gurgaon was a 2 hour-long performance by Rock veterans Parikrama, which belted out its originals along with two new tracks and some covers of Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin and AC/DC.
"It was the biggest celebration of the world music day that I remember. There's a big hype and I really enjoyed playing for the crowd. We had a group of army captains coming from Dehradun to see the performance. People came from Nepal to hear us, it was a good experience," Parikrama's Subir Malik said.
Belting out hit numbers such as, "But It Rained" and "Am I Dreaming", the band also gave a special preview of two of its new tracks.
"There are a lot of bands that have come up in the past 10 years and everyone has their own market. Nowadays youngsters are into electronic dance music, which is fine.
"Music tastes have always been changing and bands have adapted accordingly, experimenting with electronica and fusing it with elements of rock. It's always good to be experimental because it helps to create new music," Malik said.
The band has been known to innovate according to the audience and venue. For instance, Malik said, one time the rock band had introduced a bagpiper while playing for an army gig and another time the band introduced a saxophonist.
