Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today paid tribute to the martyrs of the historic Hardinge bomb case.
Freedom fighters Bhai Bal Mukund, Master Amir Chand and Master Awadh Behari were executed on May 8, 1915 for hurling a bomb at a procession of then Governor-General of India Lord Hardinge in Chandni Chowk on December 23, 1912.
Paying homage to the martyrs at their memorial in Maulana Azad Medical College here, which earlier used to be the Old Delhi Jail, Dikshit exhorted citizens to imbibe spirit of patriotism from the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters.
Amir Chand, Bal Mukund and Awadh Behari were executed at the Old Delhi Jail, while another freedom fighter Basant Kumar Biswas was hanged on May 9 at the Ambala Central Jail.
"We all are indebted to the martyrs who made supreme sacrifice and help the country to be freed from the shackles of British rule," the Chief Minister said.
In memory of these martyrs, a memorial was built at the site of 'Phansi Ghar' in Maulana Azad Medical College campus.
The freedom fighters had protested entry of the Governor- General of India in the new Indian capital Delhi. Lord Hardinge was injured in the incident.
