Haryana exceeds wheat procurement target

The Haryana government today said it has exceeded the target of wheat procurement by procuring 66,53,894 metric tonnes of wheat till yesterday during the current Rabi season despite the recent unseasonal spell of rain and hailstorm which caused huge crop damage.
Moreover, the figure of this procurement has also exceeded the procurement of 63,74,143 metric tonnes of wheat procured up to the same day last year, Haryana's Food and Supplies Minister, Ram Bilas Sharma said here today.
He said that the target of 65 lakh metric tonnes of wheat procurement was fixed for the current Rabi season.
Sharma said that wheat procurement is 2,79,751 metric tonnes higher as compared to the procurement made up to same day last year.

He said that out of the total arrival of 66,53,894 metric tonnes this year, 66,53,472 metric tonnes of crop has been procured by government procuring agencies on Minimum Support Price and remaining 422 metric tonnes was mopped up by the traders.
Giving details of the procurement, he said that over 19.76 lakh metric tonnes of wheat had been procured by the Food and Supplies Department, over 29.04 lakh metric tonnes by Hafed, over 6.84 lakh metric tonnes by Haryana Agro, more than 10.82 lakh metric tonnes by Haryana Warehousing Corporation and 5,800 metric tonnes of wheat was purchased by Confed.

Until yesterday Sirsa district was leading in wheat arrival where over 10.21 lakh metric tonnes of wheat had arrived in the grain markets followed by district Karnal with over 6.77 lakh metric tonnes of wheat, he added.
