Haryana govt okays plan for Indira Gandhi Univ at Meerpur

Haryana government today approved the proposal to set up the Indira Gandhi University at Meerpur in Rewari district.
An ordinance to the effect was passed at a meeting of the state cabinet under Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, according to an official release.
The CM had in April last announced that the Indira Gandhi Post Graduate Regional Centre at Meerpur would be upgraded to an university.
In another decision, the Cabinet cleared an amendment to the Haryana Education (College Cadre) Group B Service Rules, 1986, to make conditions for rural service practical and viable.
Following the amendment, a member of the service appointed on or after the date of publication of the state education department notification dated Oct.29, 2002, would be liable to serve in rural areas or small towns for a minimum of five years.

Out of that, a staff member should have served at least three years prior to placement in a senior scale, with two years required to be completed before the awarding of selection grade.

The staff, however, is free to opt for service in rural areas for a period of five years at a stretch prior to inclusion in senior scale.
The Cabinet also decided that the National Eligibility Test (NET) and State Level Eligibility Test(SLET) will remain the minimum criteria for recruitment of assistant professors for colleges.
Also to receive approval was an amendment through an ordinance to the Haryana Panchayati Raj Act, 1994.

The amendment states that if a new sabha area is declared or merged with a municipality, the assets and liabilities attached to such areas would be apportioned by the prescribed authority in the manner as may be prescribed.
The Cabinet also re-designated tehsil Bawal as a sub-division, created a sub-tehsil of Nahar and upgraded Manethi village (Kund Mandi) to a sub-tehsil in Rewari district.
