Haryana government has revised ex-gratia payments for victims of atrocities against Scheduled Caste citizens with dependents of those killed in such cases now set to receive up to Rs 5 lakh in compensation.
Under the revised Dr Ambedkar National Relief scheme for Scheduled Caste Victims of Atrocities, an amount of Rs 5 lakh would be paid to dependents of victims in case of death of an earning member of family.
Stating this today, a spokesman of the Haryana Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Department said that the scheme was aimed at providing instant monetary assistance to victims of atrocities or their dependents.
Sharing further details, he said that in case of murder or death of a non-earning member, the financial aid would be of Rs 2 lakh, which is also the compensation to be paid to victims of rape.
A sum of Rs 3 lakh would be given in case of arson leading to complete homelessness of Scheduled Caste families, the spokesman said.
He said that similarly, Rs 3 lakh would be paid in case of complete and permanent disability of an earning member of family. The relief for disability to a non-earning member of family is Rs 1.5.
The scheme would be in the nature of a contingency arrangement to provide instant monetary relief to the victims of atrocities under the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
