Haryana targets to produce 1.20 lakh metric tonne fish

Haryana has fixed a target to produce 1.20 lakh metric tonnes of fish and stock 5,000 lakh fish seeds during the current financial year.
A sum of Rs 48.90 crore has been approved during the 12th Five Year Plan for the implementation of various plan schemes of the Haryana Fisheries Department, a spokesperson said today.
From March 2005 to March 2013, more than 6.20 lakh MT fish was produced by stocking over 31,180 MT fish seed, the spokesman said.
He said that the electricity tariff for fisheries sector has been substantially reduced to Rs 0.25 per unit so as to bring it on par with agriculture.
Also, the state government has waived the VAT on fish feed and fish meal for the benefit of the farmers, he said.
The spokesman said that the average fish productivity in Haryana has increased to 5,700 kg per hectare per year and the state ranks second in the country in per hectare fish production.
