HBO Documentary Films has green lit a docuseries based on Michelle McNamara's bestselling true-crime book "I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer".
The book is based on a serial killer, who committed 50 home-invasion sexual assaults and ten murders during the 1970s and '80s. He was dubbed as 'The Golden State Killer'.
The docuseries, which is currently in production, will be directed by Academy Award nominee and Emmy winner Liz Garbus, HBO said in a statement.
McNamara, wife of comedian Patton Oswalt, had died in April 2016 and her book was completed posthumously by her researcher Paul Haynes and colleague Billy Jensen along with Oswalt.
On April 24, the Sacramento Sheriff's Office identified former police officer Joseph James DeAngelo as the perpetrator and arrested him at his home in a nearby suburb.
He was identified with the help of DNA evidence as the notorious serial killer and was charged with a number of crimes.
