The Meghalaya High Court today rejected a CBI plea to grant three months' time to it to complete probe into the documents of illegal high-rise buildings seized from Meghalaya Urban Development Authority.
Chief Justice Uma Nath Singh instead granted two weeks time to the investigating agency to submit the preliminary report and also directed Military Engineering Service chief engineer to provide assistance in examining the MUDA records.
Justice Singh said CBI's Additional Superintendent of police and SP in-charge N Khamrang could first concentrate on the role of town planners, engineers and secretaries of MUDA and the beneficiaries of their orders and submit a brief chart for assistance to the court.
The court also sought to find out whether the materials collected by CBI disclose any criminal offence or the cases could be referred to the state government for disciplinary action.
Earlier, the bench had held that all constructions beyond G+3 are illegal and the role of CBI was limited only to finding out officers responsible for granting permission for raising the illegal constructions and who are the beneficiaries of such orders.
