HC directs Bank to keep vacant 4 seats for visually impaired

The Madras High Court today directed the Pandyan Grama Bank, a scheduled public sector bank in Tamil Nadu, to keep vacant of four posts for visually impaired till further orders.
The First Bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice T S Sivagnanam gave the direction to keep vacant a post of Officer Grade level-I, and one Post Officer Grade level-II and two posts of Office Assistants till further orders for on a PIl by All India Confederation of The Blind.
The matter relates to no mention of reservation of posts in the bank for persons with disabilities/visually impaired in their June 2, 2015 advertisement.
The confederation Secretary Muthulakshmi had filed a PIL challenging any mention of reservation to the disabled persons in the advertisement.
Another blind Sunderesan had also filed an impleading petition stating that he secured a total weight age score of 116 out of 200 and qualified for the Office Assistant (multipurpose) post in the recruitment conducted by Institute of Banking Personnel Selection conducted in September 2014.
But in the list of eligible candidates published by the bank on July 8, his name was not found, Sunderesan submitted stating that as per the existing reservation policy one per cent reservation for visually impaired should have been reserved by the Bank.
Muthulakshmi submitted that though reservation to visually impaired persons is mandatory, the bank has not mentioned about it in its advertisement.
