HC dismisses plea for stay on release of film 'Jolly LLB'

The Delhi High Court today dismissed a PIL seeking a stay on the release of Bollywood movie "Jolly LLB", saying the petition "lacks full details" of the film.
A bench of Chief Justice D Murugesan and Justice V K Jain rejected the plea of a group of lawyers who had alleged that some dialogues and scenes in the film were defamatory.
"In our opinion, the petition cannot be entertained at this stage for want of full details. The petition is solely on the basis of trailer which is being exhibited on television and websites...
"There are no details of the circumstances on which the dialogues had been included in the scene and for that matter in the film," the bench said.

Referring to certain scenes and dialogues in the film, the bench said, "The conversation per se does not amount to be defamatory or contentious, affecting the public. Maybe it is a reference to an advocate who obtains LLB from Law College, Meerut University...
"The petition is on the basis of trailer and at this stage, it is difficult for us to find out in what context the dialogues have been used. We are not inclined to entertain this petition at this stage," the court said.

The bench was hearing the PIL filed by lawyers who had done their LLB from Law College, Meerut University.

The movie starring Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani is scheduled to be screened from March 15 and the PIL had sought cancellation of the certification granted for its release.
Appearing for the production house Fox Star Studio India Pvt Ltd, which produced the film, senior advocate Neeraj Kishan Kaul had argued that the scenes in the movie wre creative expression of the filmmaker and a depiction of day-to-day happenings.
