A bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal issued notice to city police commissioner and directed the agency to respond as to why an FIR was not lodged on her complaint that she was "brutally" attacked by around five youths yesterday on her husband's behalf, who also tried to chop off her thumb after she refused to give her thumb impression on some documents.
The bench, also comprising Justice G S Sistani, observed that the fact that she had approached the court day after the attack, shows "she has courage".
The complainant, who appeared before the court with a swollen face and injury marks, alleged she was attacked yesterday.
The assailants hit her on her head and asked her to sign various documents and when she refused, they tried to chop off her thumb, she claimed, showing a cut mark on her thumb.
She said she later called up the police control room (PCR) as well the local police and was taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre.
The woman, who claims to be willing to give her over Rs 200 crore worth property to charity, said she has property dispute cases with the accused in the trial courts and he has tried to harm her on several occasions.
