Kerala High Court today granted conditional bail to two CPI(M) leaders in Kannur District arrested in connection with the Fasal murder case.
Justice Thomas P Joseph granted bail to CPI(M) Kannur District Secretariat member Karayi Rajan, and Karayi Chandrasekharan, who had surrendered at a court here on June 22 last year after non-bailable arrest warrants were issued against them.
The two have been asked not to leave Ernakulam district and execute a bond for Rs 50,000 each plus two solvent sureties for the like amount and to appear before investigating officers whenever asked.
The case was first investigated by local police, crime branch and then by CBI.
It relates to the brutal murder of Fasal, a worker of the National Development Front (NDF) and a newspaper agent, in the early hours of Oct 22, 2006 in a public road at Thalassery in Kannur District.
The investigation was first conducted by local police, crime branch and then by CBI on the basis of a petition by the victim's wife.
The CBI after investigation found that the murder was pursuant to alleged criminal conspiracy hatched on account of political animosity. The killing was allegedly masterminded by Rajan and Chandrasekharan, who had deployed eight party sympathisers to commit the crime.
