HC moved over MBBS admission

The Madras High Court today made it clear that consideration of students who passed Plus Two in earlier academic years for admission to MBBS and BDS course this year would be subject to the outcome of petitions challenging the related government order by students who passed the qualifying exmination in 2015.
Justice M Sathyanarayanan passed the interim order during the hearing of a batch of over 60 petitions by students, represented by their parents, seeking to restrain the Directorate of Medical Examination and the Selection Committee for medical education from considering the claim of earlier batch of Plus Two students for MBBS in current academic year.

He posted the matter to July 8 for further hearing.
Earlier, counsel Raghavachary, appearing for the petitioners, claimed that the Plus Two examination held this year was very tough and consequently the students could not secure good marks.
If the candidates of the year 2014 and the preceding years are allowed to compete with the students of academic year 2015, it would only result in grave injustice to the latter.
He further submitted that the object of eradication the common entrance examination was to protect the interest of the students and ensure that they were not vexed with repeated exams and treating the board exams as equivalent to the common entrance examination.

Hence, he prayed to the court to restrain the government from considering the earlier Plus two year students for medical education this year.
This is the second petition on the matter to be filed in the high court. A batch of 16 students have moved the Madurai Bench of the court which had on June 5 issued notice to state authorities returnable in two weeks.
