Justice M M Sundresh, before whom the petition by one Preethi came up, also issued the notice to the Superintendent of Police, Thiruvallur district, and Sri Venkateswara Institute of Science and Technology where she was a student.
The petitioner found fault with colleges for not refunding caution deposit of Rs 5000 given by every student, which she said would become an unclaimed bonus to the college
She moved the court after repeated attempts to get the caution deposit refunded from her college after her graduation in 2011 went in vain.
Justice Sundresh admitted the petition and issued notice to the college and other authorities.
Preethi's counel pointed out that the Secretary of Higher Education, All India Council for Technical Education and the SP had abdicated their duties despite repeated complaints and reminders.
