The Kerala High Court today permitted 29 children from various parts of the country, rescued by childline officials from Ernakulam North railway station in May and now lodged in an orphanage here, to commence their studies from tomorrow onwards.
The order was issued on the basis of a report filed by the District Child Welfare Committee.
The cousel for the orphanage pointed out that according to the Kerala Education Rules, the students found absent for the first five days of the academic year shall be removed from rolls.
Following this, the bench, consisting of Chief Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice A M Shafique, permitted the schooling from tomorrow onwards.
Children are proposed to join two schools at Marad in Ernakulam district. At present, the children are staying in an orphanage at Edappally.
Though the authorities of the orphanage, which brought the children, made a plea to shift the children from the present place, the court rejected the prayer.
Petitioner Thambu, an NGO, pointed out that 16 more children were brought from Arunachal Pradesh.
The division bench said this aspect is also being examined along with the main case.
The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has alleged that the children were brought without required certificates from the concerned CWC official of their states.
