The Madras High Court has reserved its orders on an appeal filed in the decade-old Law College students clash case, in which both groups have expressed a desire to reach a compromise.

Two groups of students of Dr Ambedkar Government Law College, located near the high court campus, had clashed in 2008.

Police had named 43 persons as accused in the case.

A sessions court had, in 2016, sentenced 21 persons to three years imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on each.

The trial court also temporarily suspended their sentence as they preferred to go on appeal.

They approached the high court seeking permission to strike a compromise.

The request was made in the appeal moved by them challenging the trial court order.

Most of them, who are now lawyers, have been temporarily barred from practising by the Bar council in view of the conviction.

Directing them to file individual 'affidavits of compromise,' Justice R Suresh Kumar recently reserved orders on the appeal.
