The Kerala High Court today stayed a Vigilance Court proceedings against Director General of Police K S Balasubramanian and a few other officers who were accused by a private petitioner of trying to sabotage the murder case against beedi tycoon Mohammed Nisham.
The Inquiry Commissioner and Special Judge (Vigilance) court, Thrissur, had on March 25 directed the Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau to make a preliminary inquiry against DGP, Jacob Job, former Thrissur City Commissioner of Police now under suspension, K Jayachandran Pillai, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Bijukumar, Circle Inspector of Police Peramangalam and three other civil police officers.
In his complaint, one Biju Kochupaul of Thrissur had alleged that the police officers destroyed the legal evidence in the murder of Chandrabose, colluding with the accused.
Moving a petition before the High Court, the DGP said the allegations against him and the investigating team were with an objective of scuttling the probe into the case and create a camouflage by making false and frivolous allegations, affecting the morale of the force.
Judge P Ubaid admitted the petition and ordered issue of notices to the complainant and the state government.
The case against Nisham was that in a fit of rage and inebriated state, he assaulted security guard Chandrabose and later rammed him with his vehicle over delay in opening the gate at a posh residential township in Thrissur on January 27 and Bose succumbed to his injuries on February 16.
