The Allahabad High Courttoday sought response of the Uttar Pradesh government on a PIL urging the court to intervene in the allegedconstitution of Hindu courts on pattern of Sharia courts by an organisation in several western districts of the state.
A bench comprising Chief Justice DB Bhosale and Justice Yashwant Varma asked the petitioner, Ankit Singh, to implead Puja Sakun Pandey, a judge of the purported "Hindu Court".
It asked counsel for the state government to apprise it of their stand on September 11, the next date of hearing of the PIL filed against the alleged constitution of Hindu courts.
Singh, a resident of Kanpur district, has filed the Public Interest Litigation citing media reports that claimed a decision was taken by a Hindu organisation to constitute Hindu courts in every district on the pattern of Sharia courts of Islam and urged the high court to intervene.
