The Delhi High Court today expressed displeasure over defacement of court complexes in the national capital by putting up posters in connection with elections to the Bar Council of Delhi and other lawyers' bodies.
A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar said it was "high time for preservation of public property" and called for the active assistance from all the lawyers' bodies in Delhi, saying they should act as role models for the society.
It asked all the bar associations of the courts in the city to coordinate with each other and come up with an action plan to address the issue of defacement during bar elections.
With the direction, the bench listed the matter for further hearing on February 16.
The court was hearing a PIL by an advocate, Birender Sangwan, who has sought directions prohibiting lawyers, participating in the polls, from pasting their posters, banners, stickers, pamphlets and other publicity material on the court complex walls.
