Heat wave grips Odisha, Titlagarh hottest at 46.5 deg C

Gruelling heat gripped Odisha today as Titlagarh recorded 46.5 degrees Celsius and remained the hottest place in the state.
The mercury breached the 43 degrees mark in at least nine places and 40 degrees mark in 13 places, the MeT office said.
Titlagarh was closely followed by Balangir, which recorded a maximum temperature of 46 deg C, while the mercury stood at 45 deg C at Bhawanipatna and Malkangiri, 44.5 deg C at Sonepur, 44.1 deg C at Angul, 43.8 deg C at Jharsuguda, 43.7 deg C at Hirakud and 43.3 deg C at Sambalpur, it said.
The maximum temperature stood at 42.4 deg C at Phulbani town, while it was 41.5 deg C at Talcher, 41 deg C at Sundargarh and 40.2 deg C in Chandbali, the MeT office said.
In the capital city of Bhubaneswar, the maximum temperature stood at 39.2 deg C, while Cuttack city recorded 38.5 deg C.
Eight heat-related deaths have been reported in the state so far this summer - three from Angul district, two each from Sambalpur and Bargarh and one in Balangir district, the Special Relief Commissioner's (SRC) office said.
