Heavy rains continued to lash parts of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, where a 10-year-old boy was swept away in a swollen nullah in Sehore district, officials said.

The downpour led to swelling of a nullah in Khajuriya village in Sehore district. The boy, Krishna Pal, who was standing near the nullah, fell into it and got swept away on Sunday evening.

Police said they have launched a search operation.

In Shajapur district, a part of Khondkarkalam village, which has a population of 2,000 people, was inundated after a water body there breached following heavy rains on Sunday.

Eighteen people stranded in the flood were rescued, even as 10 cattle perished, District Collector Virendra Singh Rawat said.

But water has now subsided in the village, which lies around 100 kms away from Shajapur district headquarters, he added.

Traffic on Betul-Bhopal road was stopped for around four hours in the morning after bridges on Dhar and Suki rivers in Betul district got submerged following heavy rains, officials said.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Katni, Mandla, Jabalpur, Anuppur, Vidisha, Sagar, Damoh, Chhindwara, Balaghat, Hoshangabad, Betul, Hard, Guna, Shajapur, Raisen, Sehore, Rajgah, Aliragpur and Ashok Nagar districts may witness heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours.

Meteorologist at Bhopal office of the IMD, G D Mishra, said that Nasrullaganj in Sehore received 21 cms of rainfall in 24 hours ending 8 am on Sunday.

Ujjain, Bhopal, Indore, Hoshangabad and Jabalpur divisions and some districts in MP also received good rainfall.
