Heavy rains in south, central Gujarat

Heavy rains lashed several parts of southern and central Gujarat, throwing normal life out of gear.
Seventy eight talukas of the state received considerable amount of rain, the data released by the state government said.
In south Gujarat, Songadh taluka of Tapi district received 182 mm rain, the highest in the state.
It was followed by Vyara town of the same district, which received 173 mm, followed by Bardoli town of Surat district, where 129 mm rainfall was recorded. Surat city received 94 mm.
Places like Kaprada, Ucchal, Kamrej, Dharampur, Vapi, Valod and Umarpada in south Gujarat were also lashed by heavy rain, ranging from 70mm to 95mm, the release said.
Good rainfall was also received in several parts of Panchmahal district in central Gujarat. Shehra town received 120 mm of rain, followed by Godhra (80mm) and Morvahadaf (92mm).
Apart from these places, around 30 talukas across Gujarat received more than 25 mm rain, while 18 talukas got around half 13 mm of rain during that period.
According to the officials of the Meteorological Centre here, light to moderate rains are likely to occur at many parts of Gujarat in the days to come.
"Monsoon is presently active in Gujarat. We expect light to moderate rainfall to occur at places in south and north Gujarat as well as in Saurashtra region in the next two to three days. As of now, we don't see any possibility of very heavy rains," MeT Director Jayanta Sarkar said.
