Heavy rains kill 5 in east UP

Five persons, including three women, were killed in rain-related incidents as heavy showers lashed several parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
While four persons, including two women, were killed after being hit by lightning in different parts of Ballia district, a woman was killed when a wall collapsed due to incessant rain in Barabanki district.
According to the Met department chief amount of rainfall was recorded at 10-cm in Gaighat, 9-cm in Basti, 8-cm each in Muzzafarpur and Bhinga, 7-cm in Varanasi, 6-cm each in Barra, Jaunpur and Dalmau, 5-cm each in Chanderdeepghat, Sultanpur and Bareilly, 4-cm each in Allahabad, Balrampur, Nawabgang, Gazipur, Gorakhpur, Kakrahi and Sultanpur.

It said that rain or thundershowers may occur at few places in eastern UP tomorrow. It said that the Southwest Monsoon was active over eastern parts of the state and normal in western parts.
