The woman, who was on a visit to her relative's house at Puttur near here was struck by lightning while sitting inside the house. Though she was taken to the hospital, her life could not be saved, police said.
Power supply and telephone connections were disrupted due to the rains. The lightning also damaged a few houses in the district.
Heavy rains had been reported from places like Thokkotu, Ullal, Suratkal and Konaje.
