In an strange political development, a BJP representative has become the chairperson of a municipal board in Assam with the help of two Congress and one AGP members.

The political development took place at a time when the BJP is facing flak over the Citizenship Amendment Bill from several quarters including the Congress and the AGP.

The AGP even pulled out of the BJP led government in the state.

The Morigaon Municipal Board has has five BJP, four Congress, one AGP and one Independent members.

During a vote confidence on Wednesday, BJP's Archana Bordoloi became the chairperson with the help of two Congress, one AGP and four BJP members.

Her name was even proposed by the two Congress members -- Shahnaz Khanam and Simanta Medhi.

Bordoloi replaced her party colleague Madhusmita Gohain, who did not support the new chairperson.

During the election of the Board in 2015, Congress had won five seats, BJP four, AGP and Independent one each.

Bordoloi had won in Congress ticket, but revolted and joined BJP immediately after winning.

Supported by the AGP, Independent and the other four BJP members, she was elected as the chairperson.

In April 2018, Bordoloi was ousted through a no confidence motion when eight votes went against her.

Gohain of BJP then took the charge as chairperson supported by the eight members - a mix of the BJP, the Congress and the AGP.

However, in December 2018, again a no confidence motion was raised and Gohain was ousted with eight votes going against her.
