Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is the only candidate to understand the complexity of the world, Indian-American Congressman Ami Bera said today.
"As the only South Asian member of Congress, as a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, I support Hillary Clinton because she is the only candidate that understands the complexity of the world and is prepared from day one to lead America," Bera said in a brief appearance at the Democratic National Convention here.
Bera appeared on the gigantic stage of the Democratic Convention along with several other lawmakers from the Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) community led by Congresswoman Judy Chu.
"America needs a president who will fight for all of us - someone who rejects the hateful rhetoric that is too often used to divide us and who believes that America's diversity is our greatest strength.
"That's why we've got to elect Hillary Clinton as our next President of the United States! When it comes to the issues most important to us, Hillary Clinton gets it," Chu said.
Congresswoman Grace Meng, the first Asian-American elected to Congress from the East Coast, said Clinton is the best candidate to bring Americans together and move the country forward.
In her speech she also gave a shout out to Indian-American Raja Krishnamoorthi from Illinois who is seeking to enter the House of Representatives this November.
"It is critical that we elect a person who will make history for America and build a brighter future for generations to come. And that person is Hillary Clinton!" Meng said.
Senator Mazie Hirono from Hawai'i, an immigrant and the first Asian-American woman elected to the US Senate said Clinton has been a lifelong champion for women, children, and families.
Congressman Bobby Scott from Virginia, the first Filipino-American voting member of Congress, said Clinton believes that each and every child deserves a quality, affordable education so that they can reach their full potential.
"I support Hillary Clinton because she believes that all Americans - including those in the Pacific Island territories - should have access to quality, affordable health care," said Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan from the Northern Mariana Islands.
