Himachal gets 51 pc less rainfall

The state has received 135.8 mm rains against the average of 275 mm for this time of the season and none of the 12 districts had normal or excess rains, local MeT office said.

The tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti received least rains and shortfall was 84 per cent while Chamba, Kinnaur and Una received 78 per cent, 69 per cent and 65 per cent less rainfall.

Solan and Kullu fared better as compared to other districts with 32 per cent deficient rains.

Kangra, Solan and Sirmaur districts recorded 308.1 mm, 262.7 mm and 254.4 mm rains compared to normal rainfall of 471.1 mm, 464.6 mm and 389 mm.

Monsoon has so far remained weak in the state and most of the areas had no rains.

However, the maximum day temperature dropped by two to four degrees as weather remained cloudy and strong winds swept the region.

The maximum temperature dropped from 38 deg to 34 deg in Una, which was hottest in the state, while Dharamsala and Sundernagar recorded a high of 31.4 deg and 30.9 deg, followed by Bhuntar 29.6 deg, Solan 29 deg, Nahan 27.7 deg, Kalpa 24.6 deg and Shimla 23.5 deg C.

The MeT office has predicted rains and thunderstorm at many places in the state during the next 48 hours.
