Members of Hindu Jagran Manch today demanded that the family of Chandan Gupta, who was killed in Kasganj violence, be given a Rs 50 lakh compensation by the state government.
At a condolence meeting called over Gupta demise, an office bearer of the Manch, Laxman Gupta urged the administration to ensure that incidents like Kasganj were not repeated.
He demanded that Gupta's family should be given a compensation of Rs 50 lakh.
"If Akhlaq's family could be given Rs 1 crore, then Chandan's family can be given Rs 50 lakh. He should be accorded the status of a martyr." Gupta said.
Mohammed Akhlaq was lynched in Dadri in Uttar Pradesh by a mob of cow vigilantes who suspected him of consuming beef. The incident had caused a nation-wide outrage.
Meanwhile, senior member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board Zafaryab Jilani said, that even those who had played a role in the demolition of Babri Masjid were compensated by the Mulayam Singh Yadav government, when they had died.
"Some people had them objected to it, but I did not. I was of the opinion that the financial assistance was for the family members. If the condition of the (Chandan Gupta's) family is same as that of Akhlaq's family, then state government can help this family. I have no objection," he added.
