Homage was paid to gunner Sahadev Maruti More, killed in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, as his body was brought to neighbouring Vijayapura today enroute to his native village.
The body of More was brought to Sambra here by a special aircraft and then taken onboard a helicopter to Vijayapura, where it has been kept at a Sainik school to enable the public pay their homage.
More, who was fondly called 'Maurya' by peers, was killed in an encounter with terrorists in Kupwara district of North Kashmir on February 13. He hailed from a very humble family of farmers in Savalsanga village in Vijayapura.
Brigadier Shinde of Maratha Light Infantry and Karnataka Small scale Industries Minister Satish Jarkiholi along with BJP MPs Prahlad Joshi and Suresh Angadi laid wreaths More's body, which would be taken to his village tomorrow for cremation.
It was a tragic end for More as he was scheduled to return next week to his native place for his marriage. He had delayed the wedding to allow his bride to complete her education.
More, survived by his aged parents, had carved a niche for himself as sharp scout and had been part of numerous operations.
The army killed five suspected Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants while losing two soldiers, including More, during an overnight encounter that ended yesterday in Kupwara district bordering Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
