This data centre would serve as central repository for UIDAI to store the residents' basic demographic and biometric information captured while issuing 12 digit Aadhaar number to each resident across India, Hooda said.

Aadhaar cards have been issued to 21 crore residents of the country and the rest will be covered in due course of time, he said.

The basic information of all people from all over the country would be stored at this centre, he said.

On the occasion, Chairman UIDAI Nandan Nilekani said the data centre would come up on a five-acre land provided by the Haryana government and it will be a state-of-the-art, captive green data centre as per global standards and guidelines.

This will be most energy efficient data centre in the country and would be equipped to provide round the clock monitoring and operation support, Nilekani said.

He said that the construction of the data centre is likely to be completed by June 2014.

Director General and Mission Director UIDAI R S Sharma said that the data centre will be reviewed by the Uptime Institute, USA for a Tier III certification, while the Indian Green Building Council would review the centre for purpose of awarding a gold rating Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for green building.

The average annual Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of the data centre is estimated to be less than 1.6 making it one of the most green and efficient data centres in the country.

PUE is a measure of how efficiently a computer data centre consumes power.

Further, to ensure utmost security, the data centre will be housed in blast proof concrete structure adhering to design as per seismic zone-5 compliance requirements, Sharma said.

Hooda, later announced an English Medium Model School for the area.
