Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda along with Congress leaders and party workers today staged a dharna in the new grain market here in protest against the alleged distress sale of paddy, cotton and bajra in the state.
Speaking on this occasion, Hooda said the local farmers were not getting remunerative price of their produce due to which they even failed to recover the cost of their produce.
He alleged that the price of paddy is very low while rice was being sold at higher rates.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, before the general elections, had assured farmers that the Swaminathan Commission Report will be implemented and they will get remunerative price of their produce but after coming to power the BJP government has failed to fulfil its promises, alleged Hooda.
He further charged the Modi government with favouring capitalists and ignoring poor people and labour class.
He said that under the BJP rule in the state poor people, traders and labourers were struggling.
Senior Congress leaders Randip Singh Surejewala, Anand Singh Dangi, Deepinder Singh Hooda, Jagbir Malik, Prof Virender Singh, former Haryana speaker Kuldeep Sharma were among others present on the occasion.
