Hooda sets three-month deadline to start work on PRT project

Presiding over a meeting on the PRT project in Gurgaon, the chief minister was given a detailed presentation on the proposed project by Ultra-Fairwood Holdings.

Hooda directed the officers to explore all possibilities for starting work on the project and said that MD of Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) would be the nodal officer for the scheme.

He asked the company to start work on the first and second phase of the project together.

"It should be completed in two-and-a-half years," Hooda said, adding that there should a regulatory body for monitoring the project which would also keep an eye on the security aspects.

Ranbir Saran Das of Fairwood Holdings told the Chief Minister that the proposed project in Gurgaon would be completed in three phases under which there would be 143 stations. It would be 105-km long and pass through National Highway-8, Metro Station and IFFCO Chowk.

The proposed fare of this service would be about Rs 6 per km which is half the fare of taxi, and less than the fare charged by auto-rickshaws. The company is capable to providing service to 6.23 lakh passengers daily. The construction work would be assessed by the IIT, Roorkee and Delhi.

The company officials said assistance of seven government agencies -- Municipal Corporation, Gurgaon, HSIIDC, Haryana State Urban Development Authority, Urban Local Bodies, National Highways Authority, Public Works (Building and Roads), Power and Agriculture department -- would be sought for this purpose.

Das said the company was also working on Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) transport service project in Amritsar, Punjab. Apart from this, the project was also being started at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.
