Housing subsidy handed to poor families

Puducherry Welfare Minister P Rajavelu today handed over housing subsidy to 163 poor families in neighbouring Embalam village to enable them to convert huts into concrete houses.
He distributed a total sum of Rs 75.70 lakh to the families under the Kamarajar Centenary Housing Subsidy Scheme of Puducherry Slum Clearance Board.
He said the government was keen on converting all the huts into concrete houses and the subsidy was being distributed in a phased manner depending upon the stage of construction.
Each family was eligible to get Rs 2 lakhs as subsidy, he said.
