HP continues to reel under cold wave conditions

Intense cold wave conditions continued unabated in most parts of Himachal Pradesh even as the weather remained dry today with some relief from rains and snow.
The minimum temperatures remained below normal and piercing cold wave conditions persisted in high altitude tribal areas with mercury remaining 14 to 22 degrees below the freezing point.
While Keylong and Kalpa in tribal areas recorded a low of minus 9.5 degrees and minus 3.2 degree, Manali froze at minus 2.0 degree.
Shimla and Chamba recorded lows of 1.2 degrees and 1.5 degrees respectively.
Mercury stayed close to the freezing point in the lower hills with Dharamsala and Una recording minimum temperatures of 3.4 and 4.0 degree Celsius respectively.

While Nahan recorded a low of 4.4 degree, Bhuntar and Solan recorded 4.5 degree and Sundernagar 6.2 degree Celsius.

Rohtang experienced 90 cm of snow. Kalpa received 13 cm of snow while Keylong and Khadralaa had 5 cm of fresh snow.
High altitude tribal areas had another spell of moderate snowfall while the mid and lower hills experienced widespread rains.
Heavy rains lashed several parts of the state and Kumarsain was wettest in the region with 46 mm rains while Sundernagar and Bijahi recorded 29 mm and 25 mm of rainfall, followed by Manali 22 mm, Kandaghat 21 mm, Hamirpur 19 mm, Jubbarhatti 17 mm, Jogindernagar, Jubbal and Shimla 15 mm, Baldwara 14 mm, Naina Devi, Bajaura 13 mm and Bhuntar 11 mm.

The Rohtang Pass has been closed for winters while traffic was disrupted on Hindustan-Tibet national highway beyond Rekong Peo.
The link roads in interior areas of Kullu district were closed due to snow while all major highways in the state were open for traffic.
The day temperatures rose by few notches and Una was hottest during the day with a high of 18.0 degrees, followed by Sundernagar 17.7 degrees, Solan and Bhuntar at 17.0 degrees, Dharamshala 13.8 degrees, Nahan 12.5 degrees, Shimla 11.1 degrees, Manali 6.6 degrees and Kalpa 5.4 degree Celsius.
The local MeT office has predicted light rains or snow in higher hills tomorrow and dry weather in the state over next five days.
