Hyderabad Public School, the alma mater of newly-appointed Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, is basking in the glory of the spectacular achievement of the city-born techie.
Born in 1969, Satya Nadella went to the Hyderabad Public School (HPS) at Begumpet here, after which he obtained a degree in electronics and communications from the Manipal Institute of Technology in Karnataka.
The HPS today called a special assembly of students to announce the elevation of Nadella as Microsoft CEO.
The students erupted in joy after the HPS Principal Col (retd) R S Khatri announced the news.
Some of the classmates of Nadella who attended the assembly said Khatri recalled the speech he had made in the alumni meet in 2011, also attended by Nadella.
"The school produced some of the best personalities in all walks of life. Satya is one of them," Khatri said.
Nadella's batchmate and the secretary of HPS Society, Faiz Khan recalled how Nadella Satyanarayana, fondly called as Satya, had been instrumental in starting Microsoft's iSpark robotics programme at the school in 2011.
"HPS has never been in the media focus despite many achievements. But this time it is ocean of media people all over including overseas. The assembly was so nice even some of the students also spoke," Khan said.
He said the school will officially write a letter to Nadella congratulating him and also requesting him to visit his alma mater.
Srikar Reddy, a class-IX student of HPS, said he was proud to be in the same school where Nadella had studied.
"I am really thrilled. I did not know before who Satya Nadella was. But when I came to know that he studied in my school and went on to become CEO of Microsoft, I am proud to be in the same school", Reddy said.
